The Proposal

Daniel knew that he was in love with Sarah 2 weeks after their first date. He knew within the next week that he wanted to marry her.

To really understand how Daniel got Sarah's dad's approval you need to understand the dowry gift of 12 cows.

Back in the summer while they were working at EFY, Daniel told Sarah that he wanted to marry her and make her his wife. She then told him that in order to get her father's approval he was going to need to provide him with 12 cows. He then began the quest of finding 12 cows that could easily travel to Hawaii.

On the second day of their trip to Hawaii, Sarah and Daniel spent the day at the beach. On the way home they stopped at the store so that Daniel could buy his 12th cow. Steak.

Upon arriving home, Sarah walked into the house and said while walking upstairs, "Daniel bought dinner!" She then proceeded into the bathroom where she took a shower. Her parents replied, "He did what?" Daniel was thrown under the bus and had to start the process of giving the dowry to her father. He said, "I bought dinner. I hear you're a steak and potatoes type of guy and that you really like cows. I've also heard that you really like the number 12. Well here's one cow and I've actually got 11 more upstairs." Sarah was in the shower during all of this and thus missed out on the conversation and gift giving.
Sarah's mom then said to hold on so that she could find her camera. Her dad asked Daniel, "You do understand the implications behind this right?" Daniel was a little nervous but he replied that he did understand. As Sarah's mother was filming the event, Daniel then proceeded to give each cow to her father. After receiving the 12 cows, her father then said that he had a quiz for Daniel.
The quiz went like this:
"Are you a member of the church?"
"Yes."
"Do you have a temple recommend?"
"Yes."
"Are you worthy to hold your temple recommend?"
"Yes."
"Did you serve a mission?"
"Yes."
"What are your intentions with my daughter?"
"To take her to the celestial kingdom, I mean, for her to take me to the celestial kingdom." "Well good. Welcome to the family!"

                                                              Here are the cows:

The following day, Daniel, Sarah and her parents, went to the Polynesian Cultural Center. (PCC) After hours and hours of walking around, Daniel and Sarah separated from the parents to enjoy a canoe ride. They took their seats and as the canoe took off, Daniel mentioned that there was a possibility of a ring in his pocket. Sarah laughed and stated that he was lying. "There's no way you have a ring in your pocket. You wouldn't propose to me like that." Daniel taunted her and told her to check his pockets. She did, not at all convinced that there was a ring, and found the pockets empty. Sarah was annoyed. Very annoyed. (Let's be honest though, if you knew you were going to marry some one for months, and still no ring? You'd get annoyed too.) The canoe ride ended and it was time for dinner. They took their seats and enjoyed a Luau presented by the PCC. At one point Daniel left the table and Sarah's mom asked if she was alright. Sarah told her mother about the trick Daniel played on her and how she found it slightly annoying. Daniel came back and then Sarah left the table. Her mother then turned to Daniel and said "Boy, you better propose here quickly before she ends up saying no."

That Saturday, Dec. 29th, they decided to explore the North Shore and to check out Waimea Valley. Daniel had borrowed a backpack from Sarah's mom and dad. When they arrived at the Valley he told her to stay inside the car for a minute while he grabbed something from the trunk. Sarah was deeply confused but knowing Daniel she would find out soon enough. They walked up the trail to the waterfall and it was crowded. Kids in the water and a swarm of people just standing around the water. They enjoyed the sight as much as they could and decided to head down  the trail again. Sarah wanted to explore the trails that branched off the main one and after exploring one Daniel asked Sarah to take a seat next to him on the side. Sarah was still very confused as to what was happening.
He asked her, "Do you remember the nickname the our boys made for us?"
"Chip and Salsa." Out of the backpack he pulled a bag of chips and a jar of salsa.
"What's your nickname for me?"
"Superman?" He pulls out a Superman t-shirt.
"Why do you call me that?"
"You picked me up from my car accident!" Two two cars, and one looked like it had been in an accident.
"What did our kids tell us to do?"
"Ride off into the sunset on a Spanish horse?" He takes out two horses from the backpack with a boy and a girl riding.

Sarah the whole time didn't entirely know what to make of all of this. She kept thinking, "Is he? No! Wait... really?! No way. He's not. Is he?!"
He asked next, "What do all these have in common?"
"It's our very first week together!" "And?"
"And?"
"This is when we became friends."
He then got on one knee, stated that he wanted to be more than friends. He pulled out a box and opened it up and asked her.

She said yes!
And burst into tears of pure happiness.
